Exuberantly and cheerfully is the way I like to live and the way I like to paint. I am inspired by my travels and the simple things in life and captivated by the love, beauty and colours surrounding us. I love to create cheerful, bright, stylized paintings adding a little colour and happiness to our lives. I want my paintings to bring out the child within; the part that is free to dream and forget about our everyday stresses. I work from my imagination, infusing my own playful personality into my work. I work mainly with acrylics, which I adore for their intensity and versatility. I love to paint with bright colours, bold lines and experiment with juxtaposition of colors, shapes, and patterns.
I am influenced and attracted to the “cloisonnism” technique used by post impressionist masters (Paul Gaugin, Emile Bernard Louis Anquetin and Paul Serusier) in their work using bold colours and dark contours. I use this Cloisonné technique extensively in my work as it emphasizes the colours, shapes and structures in my own compositions. My wish is to have the audience experience the energy of colour and harmony that transcends from my paintings.
My subject matter covers a varied range of themes, all indicative of the many places and aspects of life I find intriguing: Flowers with their beautiful colours and organic shapes; Memories from our travels across Europe and deep in my heart is always the beautiful Italian Riviera, colourful Tuscany, vibrant city-landscapes, the majestic sea with its boats and harbours, which are full of imagery and romance and of course the lively cats that I met along the way.
I have just relocated to South Africa and I am really enjoying this beautiful place. I am feeling so inspired and looking forward to starting new works.
When I paint, I relive the magic, colours, and wonders of my travels and my paintings are always an expression of me and how I see our beautiful world!
I know I have achieved my goal, when my painting makes you smile!
