Biography

Lisa (Lariviere), Lorenz was born in Montreal, Canada and has been drawing and painting exuberantly since childhood and her talent expands over many years.  After living overseas for over 13 years, she has recently moved back to her native Canada and now lives in Ottawa.

 

She studied graphic design and advertising at Concordia University.  Her work led her outside the art world and she pursed a career with a major railway for over 9 years.  In 1996 she moved overseas with her husband and was given the opportunity to once again discover her artistic side.  She started painting again taking several art classes and workshops in Europe and Asia. 

 

She has lived in Basel, Switzerland, Seoul, Korea and Copenhagen, Denmark and has traveled extensively and many of her paintings are often based on her travels through Europe and Asia. Painting her impressions is her way of remembering and sharing such colorful memories. 

Lisa is an artist who uses a radiant palette to create her colourful and stylized paintings. Her work is characterized by joyful compositions, exaggerated perspectives and her strikingly effective use of colours and pattern.   Her playful, lively, vivid compositions all evoke in us a sense of happiness and a smile.   Her paintings are consistently fun to look at and even have a slightly youthful quality to them without being childish.   Her paintings are guaranteed to brighten up your day.

Over the years, her colourful and stylized paintings have grown and become more creative, vibrant and distinct in style. Her work hangs in private collections in Australia, Asia, Europe and North America.

Artist Statement

Art is a universal concept and there are as many opinions about what "Art" is as there are people in the world. I have always admired children's artwork; as it is imaginative, uninhibited and full of joyful colours. 

Exuberantly and cheerfully is the way I like to live and the way I like to paint.  I am inspired by the simple things in life and captivated by the love, beauty and colours surrounding us.   I love to create cheerful, bright, stylized paintings adding a little colour and happiness into our lives.  My art is a celebration of life, colour and form.

I want my paintings to bring out the child within; the part that is free to dream and forget about our everyday stresses.

 

I work from my imagination, infusing my own playful personality into my work. I work mainly with acrylics which I love for their vivid colours and versatility. I love to paint with bright colours and experiment with juxtapose combinations of colors, shapes and ideas.  My subject matter covers a varied range of subjects, all indicative of the many places and aspects of life I find intriguing: Flowers with their beautiful colours and organic shapes; Memories from our travels across Europe and deep in my heart is always the beautiful Italian Riviera, colourful Tuscany, vibrant city-landscapes, the majestic sea with its boats and harbours, which are full of imagery and romance and of course the lively cats that I met along the way.

 

When I paint, I relive the magic, colours, and wonders of my travels and my paintings are always an expression of me and how I see our beautiful world! 

 

I know I have achieved my goal, when my painting makes you smile!
